Following the suspension of ASUU strike earlier in the week Universities are yet to resume full academic activities. This is because that is partial suspension of strike as other key unions in the system namely, NASU, NAAT and SSANU are still at loggerheads with government over their allowances and all nationwide.
However, students, applicants and other stakeholders in the sector can now heave a sigh of relieve. This is not unconnected to report from strong reliable source that NASU, NAAT and SSANU have reached an agreement with government to suspend strike after a successful meeting by representatives from all parties. A three page agreement was signed and endorsed by all concerned. The meeting which began at 4:30 p.m on Wednesday did not end until the wee hours of Thursday morning around 1:00 a.m. As expected they were asked to be given some times to get back to their local branches with a copy of the document and thereafter announcement would be made.
How does this affect you may want to ask? Well, it affects you as a student or would-be student, parent or what have you directly or indirectly because all activities have been on hold for about a month now in Universities nationwide and you know what it is to keep a young adult idle. For instance, for fresh Diploma/Foundation students their resumption which is even belated, would be Monday. For Post-UTME Applicants the likely date for their entrance examination is upper week Monday to span the week while a day may be given like next week Friday for applicants to tidy up their registrations and reprint examination pass. For Undergraduates printing of Examination docket may start next week preparatory to examination proper upper week or so. For Distance Learning Institute Students prepping for their annual residential and examination programme which would start immediately after regular (full time) students' examination can not be ignored. For Postgraduate students the semester continues while those who were rounding up for semester examination like Faculty of Education and others would do that and be primed for examination proper. For ICE Applicants the date for their entrance examination in October is still realistic as forms are still on sale. For Postgraduate entrance printing of pass will likely start next week Friday while entrance examination proper would likely start with CBT 3 weeks from now and span about 10 days while the few department taking written examination may just be a day or two. Dont forget that the Postgraduate form is still on sale.
